Tips to a successful garage sale

Sellers tips...

• Price all items to avoid lots of questions on the day
• Make sure all items are clean and in working order
• Have a live power point close to appliances so your customers can test them
• People don't like having to sort through piles of junk, so make sure you display everything nicely and as you sell things, you might want to rearrange.
• Have at least $50 worth of change and a calculator ready
• Groups of similar items like books or toys could be put in the same box with one price on it
• Make sure to lock all doors leading into your house as you will be concentrating on your customers
• Ask some friends to help you out for the day to keep an eye on things and help customers
• If you have items in your garage that you don't want to sell, either move them or cover them up.
• Place tables in a way that customers can move around freely
• It's a good idea to have lots of newspaper ready to wrap those fragile items
• Things will sell for a better price if you are able to supply the original box and instruction manuals
• Most importantly, place your signs in high traffic areas

Buyers tips...

• Wear comfortable shoes, you might have to climb steep driveways or steps to get to the garage sale
• Get there on time so you get first dibs on the good stuff
• Ask the seller to test electrical items so you won't be disappointed later
• Have lots of coins and small notes with you as the seller might not have the right change handy
• Take some boxes and newspaper with you to wrap your new belongings in
• If there is something specific you are after, just ask the seller; you might have missed it between everything else.
